Homemade Barbecue Sauce – Natural Sweetener, No HFCS

Homemade Barbecue Sauce – Natural Sweetener, No HFCS

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Who doesn’t love homemade barbecue sauce! This basic recipe is a one-pot sauce, easy to make, delicious and adjustable to suit your tastes. It’s a great addition another one-pot recipe, Baked Beans, and a dipping sauce even kids who usually only like ranch-style sauces will like.

I can’t eat a lot of the commercially made barbecue sauces. They contain high fructose corn syrup, an ingredient that makes my blood sugar soar. If you’re avoiding HFCS you’ll need to check the ingredient list in the ketchup.

Naturally Sweet

There’s a quarter-cup of natural sweetener and two tablespoons of molasses in this recipe. That’s a lot of sugar that can make the sauce go from a beautiful deep red color to burnt to a crisp in seconds. If you’re using it on a smaller piece of meat you shouldn’t have any problems. For larger cuts you’ll need to keep an eye on it, or wait until closer to the end of cooking before brushing it on. As I almost always say, try this basic recipe for homemade barbecue sauce and then adjust the ingredients to suit your tastes. You might want more or less of something. I like to add diced onion.
