Turmeric Dog Treats

Turmeric is a known anti-inflammatory for humans and dogs. Ava is aging, going on eight in a few months. She carries extra weight as a side effect of her epilepsy medications. Extra weight is hard on a dog’s joints so I’ve started making turmeric dog treats. Ava and Zoey are fussy about their treats and like these so it’s a double win for us.

I shared the recipe for Peanut Butter Oatmeal treats and mentioned that they’re best for cool and cold weather. These turmeric dog treats are baked so they’re shelf stable and do well in heat and cold.

You can use cookie cutters to make the treats into shapes or roll a pizza cutter through the dough to shorten the process.

  • 4 cups quick oats
  • 1/3 cup flax seed ground
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup water

  • Heat the oven to 350° Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the egg and water and mix until combined.
  • Using your hands, knead the dough in the bowl. It will be sticky. Knead until the ingredients come together. Let rest for 10 minutes while the oats absorb the water and egg.
  • Roll the dough out to 1/4" thick. You can use cookie cutters or the quick and speedy method, run the pizza cutter through the dough. Determine the size of the treat by the size of your dog.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the dog treats on the parchment and bake in the 350° oven for 30 minutes.
