Maple Syrup Dumplings
all purpose flour
In a heavy six quart pan, bring water and maple syrup to a boil. While you wait for the boil, go to next step.
Mix together the flour, salt and baking powder. Grate the frozen butter into the dry mix by using the large hole size of a box grater. Mix the grated butter into the dry mix using your fingers.
Stir in the milk until the dry mix is moist. Don't over stir. This is not a smooth dough. Expect it to look but not be a little crumbly. It will be sticky.
Drop by heaping tablespoon into the boiling maple syrup and water. When all of the dumplings are in the pan, reduce the heat to simmer, cover and let cook for 15-20 minutes.
Serve as is, drizzled with warm maple syrup, warm cream, or a scoop of ice cream.
