Happy New Year! Do you ever have the feeling that “this is my year” and intentionally get the year off to a great start? That’s me! This IS going to be my year. I’m excited about what’s happening and going to happen on the homestead and in the bakeshop. I’m also excited to be adding more homemade items like taco seasoning to my pantry.

Steve has built a new hen house almost by himself. I’m truly excited about it. More about it later. The perennial garden design I struggled with last year wasn’t right. The design that’s meant to be came to me a month ago. Every plant I put in the ground in that garden last year is going to be moved this year. Taylor and Jed have agreed to help us re-cover two high tunnels in late spring or early summer. I have a few more weeks to plan the garden around the bakeshop and get the seeds ordered. There’s more coming but that’s a lot to look forward to right there.

Oh! Cooking, of course. I’m mixing up a batch of Taco Seasoning today, and I thought I’d share the recipe with you. I’m using this in a recipe for Taco Soup that’s coming up on my cooking show, On The Fire. The seasoning doesn’t have preservatives and anti-caking agents but you can still mix it up in a bigger batch and store it in a jelly jar. Two tablespoons of this Taco Seasoning is equivalent to a commercial packet.

The Taco Soup recipe will air January 11-12 in On The Fire, my cooking segment on Big Wild Radio.
